Because of my Hair… Review

17 July 2009 One Comment

Thanks for stopping by again! I look forward to reading your thoughts. Did you know that I also tweet?

Because of my hair, you can usually find me in a ponytail or bun. It can’t decide whether or not it wants to be straight or curly… and getting it to do either takes work. If I just blow dry it, it frizzes… even with the anti-frizz serum. Due to it being pulled back most  (99%) of the time, I don’t go to get it cut as much as I probably should and I haven’t had it colored since… well, since long before I found out I was pregnant.

Noah and Because of my Hair 7.17.09So…. when I was contacted about this cute little book, Because of My Hair… I jumped at the chance to review it. I mean what better way for me to feel okay about pulling my hair back into the “mom” do?

The book is a very quick read, nothing you will slave over for days. It is witty and funny and the illustrations are just too cute. I found myself flipping the pages thinking “I can relate to that… and that… and that…”. I had a blast and I think I even may have gotten a few confused looks from Noah, who couldn’t understand why his mama was laughing at a book that 1) he wasn’t allowed to touch and 2) she didn’t seem to be reading anyway, because no sound other than laughter was coming from his Mama’s mouth.

Here’s a little but about the authors as taken from the book:

For the better part of two decades Joanne LaMarca Mathisen has served as a veteran producer of “Today,” America’s #1 morning news program. Joanne currently resides in Montclair, New Jersey with her husband and two sons who give Joanne absolutely no time to use any of the 365 hair products she keeps in her cabinets. These days, the closest she gets to a professional blow dry is driving with all the windows down.

Robyn Spizman is a New York Times Best-Selling author who enjoys writing books in solitary confinement when she’s having a bad hair day. However, thanks to her talented hairdresser who is permanently on speed dial, she has ventured out as a well known media personality and speaker who appears weekly on the NBC affiliate WXIA in Atlanta and heard on Star 94. She is married and has two grown children and lives in Atlanta, Georgia where the weather is not too humid.

I not only liked Because of My Hair… because it was a fun read, but also because part of the proceeds of each sale go to a good cause… Morgan James Publishing will donate one percent of all book sales to Habitat for Humanity – how great is that!

PS: No books were harmed while taking the picture with Noah!
